It's fun to discover and explore resorts off the beaten path
The International Network of Golf has been fortunate the past two years to conduct the ING Spring Conference at two of the world’s most well known resorts, Pinehurst in 2010 and Innisbrook this past May.
It is always a thrill to go to famous destinations where many of golf’s greatest players have roamed. We have been blessed. To me, however, it is just as exciting to venture off the beaten path; to discover that hidden gem that could become tomorrow’s most popular golf resort.
Such will be the case next May 20-24 when the 22nd Annual ING Spring Conference takes place at the Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort and Conference Center in South Carolina.
The professional golf world knows a little something about this resort. The Nike Tour (currently the Nationwide) played there for nine years back in the 90s. But the general public outside of the deep South has yet to discover this cozy resort. Rest assured, we are in for a treat. A multi-million dollar renovation that was completed this summer put polish on what was already a sparkling resort. The hotel appearance resembles a previous ING site – the World Golf Village Renaissance. It has a beautiful atrium with a very appealing indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar area - a perfect spot for ClubING.
One large difference – every room is a spacious suite. The meeting rooms are conveniently located off the hotel lobby, and are more than adequate for ING’s needs. The golf course, The Preserve At Verdae, is beautiful, nestled among large trees, with a stream that comes into play on several holes. There is plenty of elevation change to test even the most skilled. And then there is very popular downtown Greenville, only a few minutes away. You’ll want to research all there is to do there before making travel plans to the conference. The Greenville Embassy Suites Golf Resort may not have the history of our previous two host sites. But trust me...you will want to discover and explore this hidden gem.
