ING Product of the Week: Exotics Tour Proto Wedge
Dozens of tremendous new golf products were introduced at the PGA Merchandise Show in late January in Orlando. We will be reviewing several of them over the next few weeks as the ING Product of the Week.
We start with the Exotics Tour Proto Wedge from Tour Edge. Exotics is a brand name that has become synonymous with excellence in the driver and fairway woods market.
But one of the company’s best new products in 2012 comes into play at the other end of the fairway. The Tour Proto Wedge is “way ahead of its time,” according to Tour Edge president David Glod.
Key aspect of the wedge is its thinness – the face is only 1.5mm thick. The face is backed by a hollow core that is filled with a new thermal plastic elastomer gel (TPEG). The club also features a 303-milled-stainless steel face found in most putters. All of these elements combine to produce a wedge with exceptional spin, feel and feedback.
Players who enjoy using the wedge from all lie conditions will appreciate the tour perfected sole grind that allows playability from the firmest hardpan to the softest rough.
Another important aspect of the Tour Proto Wedge is the True Temper DG Spinner shaft. Designed to increase ball spin during approach shots, the shaft features a specially engineered section just beneath the grip that can greatly increase the ball’s spin rate.
And with its black chrome finish, the Exotics Tour Proto Wedge has a winner’s appearance.
