Media Panel Creates Strong Beginning To 21st ING Spring Conference

By: By Jack O'Leary on 05/24/11 02:38 PM

The tone of the ING Spring Conference at the Innisbrook Resort was set immediately and resolutely in the opening panel on Monday. The role of the internet and its effect on today’s media was laid out in no uncertain terms as discussed in a panel containing Ronnie Musselwhite, editor of Golf Business Magazine, Lawrence Hollyfield, Managing Editor Golf Global Post, and Doug Hollandsworth, Associate Publisher USA of Golf & Travel Magazine.

The panel was in agreement that journalism has undergone a total makeover with the advent of bloggers and that it is time that the “citizen journalists” become aware of their responsibilities and that the reader has to become more aware of what they’re reading and its credibility.

Noted TV personality and motivational speaker Michelle Phillips delivered the keynote address and stressed the importance of the seven seconds you have to make a first impression. She also alerted the attendees to the importance of taking chances in your life to attain your goals regardless of how high they’re set. “No matter what you face, it’s how you pull it together” was her message.

Traveling a new road, the ING members were treated to sessions with ActionCOACH, a service dedicated to helping their clients succeed in business and in life.

The business session headed by Ford Kyes and his daughter Juliet stressed the basics of building a successful business plan. They stressed the importance of not only creating a plan, but physically committing it to paper. The increase in the odds of success by doing this simple task was astounding. Those who followed through with this outperformed the others by being the top four percent in business.

Keeping the sessions in the family, the life skills the discussion was led by Barb Kyes, the wife of Ford and mother of Juliet. She addressed learning habits that can channel your life on a successful path.

The two sessions were intertwined in that they both address the importance of having discipline and focus in all walks of life and business.
